Weekly Update:

Dear Parents,
We hope you all had an enjoyable Mother’s Day weekend.  We have a busy week this week.  This week is the paperback book exchange.  Monday through Wednesday students are to bring in used paperback books in exchange for Bush Bucks.  On Thursday students will get the chance to “buy” books with those Bush Bucks.  Also, all library books are to be turned in this Tuesday.  Thursday is 2nd Grade Yearbook signing.  If your child doesn’t have a yearbook for others to sign we can provide paper for them.  This Friday is Field Day from 8:15 – 10:45. Please remember to send them in appropriate clothes and shoes for this event.  Students are asked to wear either a Bush t-shirt or their Boosterthon t-shirt.
Just a reminder that Biography in a Can is due this Friday!
This Week:
Reading: The next two weeks we will be reading Fairy Tales in the form of Reader’s Theater.  We will read Jack and the Beanstalk and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs
Writing: We are finishing up our Animal Research and moving on to Biographies.  Next week we will be writing our own Fairy Tales.
Spelling: Our spelling test this week is on Thursday (moved due to field day).  Our pattern is words with the consonant diagraphs kn, wr, gn.
Social Studies: This week we will discuss biographies of famous Americans.

Math: This week in math we are learning about Division.  The students will model, create and describe contextual division situations in which a set of concrete objects are separated into equivalent sets.   For example: There are 24 chairs in Mrs. Bruce’s room.  She separated the chairs equally into 4 rows.  How many chairs were placed in each row? 1. ******  2. ******   3. ******  4. *******
24 chairs separated into 4 rows represents 6 chairs in each row.  Students may also be expected to create division situations.  This lays the foundation for the development and mastery of division facts in third grade.
Science:  This week the students will compare and give examples of the ways living organisms depend on each other and on their environments, such as food chains within a beach and lake.

Thursday – Spelling Test
Friday – Homework Due, Biography in a Can due

Have a great week!
Mrs. Nettuno and Mrs. Bruce
